up on the rooftop

on location

Ah, to be back “on location.”

Okay, so I haven’t exactly been on a lot of Hollywood shoots, but I had my share of traveling and shooting on location when I used to produce video. Now that I’m doing purely design/animation, that’s not a part of my job description anymore. I didn’t realize just how much I missed it until I spent the day on a rooftop for a project that will show this summer.

And this time, I got to play on BOTH sides of the camera. Here’s a little sneak peek of what the final project might look like.

Of all the houses on all the blocks…

16 03 2008

Some people around me might remember hearing me refer to a “geyser” exploding in my front yard early one Saturday morning. I’m sure many of them chalked it up to my tendency to exaggerate stories for comedic effect, but this time, my friends: no exaggeration. I just dug up the proof.

Oh well, I don’t live there anymore :)

HD makes BC a dull boy

down with HD

Holy crap. I was so excited about the prospects of HD – as a viewer anyway, but as the guy who has to create all of that beautiful millions-of-pixels content, I’m not exactly a fan.

First of all, just to do a simple thing like watch what I’m animating on a monitor, my computer has been under construction off and on for about two weeks or more. Yeah, it still doesn’t work. Then an actual big HD motion graphic project hits. Oh, what’s that? It’s going to take DAYS to render my 3D layer? Guess I’ll switch to standard def and start all over – at 10pm.

If I’m sounding a bit cranky, it’s because everyone’s about to pour into the office for the morning, and I’m still here from yesterday.

So, with these problems and the wasted investment of the HD-DVD drive, the only good that HD has brought into my world has been while watching LOST.

“Hostage” tease/open

The “Hostage” tease/open for LifeChurch.tv. I’m finally putting it up.

Fun times in the Bling building here. We lined all of the video producers (well, those that weren’t out shooting) and graphic designers up against a window in the studio and asked them to beat the glass. I swear Sarah almost broke it.

-shot in HD, composited in AfterEffects (in SD) with some Photoshop.
-features Stephen Cox reprising his role as “scary guy”

Who needs designers?

Had almost forgotten about this video…

It’s a little long, but it still cracks me up. Anyone who’s ever designed for clients (especially corporate clients) needs to see it.

Rainbow Around the Sun

Rainbow Around the Sun

Here’s a poster that I had the privilege to design for an independent film that will be screening at SouthBySouthwest in a little over a week (for those of you attending – screenings are Mar 8, 11, & 15).

This is a great film, definitely a work of art, and you should see it. Check out rainbowaroundthesun.com for the trailer, some screenshots, and music from the film.
