Spreading the Colour love.

10 09 2008

An inspiring little diddy from a great Oklahoma band, Colourmusic. You’ve GOT to check out their website. Trust me.

We shared studio time with these guys a few years back and they were some of the coolest guys you’ll meet – making the music that they love for all the right reasons. It just so happens that other people really love it, too.

With all of the bands I’ve seen disappear, I’m so glad to see that they’re still going strong.

Thanks to Kevin for posting this.

A Short Love Story in Stop Motion

This is beautiful, that’s all i can say:

Thanks to Kevin for sharing it.

What if a corporation designed the stop sign?

29 07 2008

I usually try not to post something that’s already as visible as this (it was on Today’s Big Thing a few days ago), but this was just waaaaay too brilliant to pass up.

This goes back a little more to my days in the corporate world, but I think anyone that’s ever designed for a client will appreciate it.

The only thing that would have driven it home for me is if the client decided, at the end, to go back to the designer’s original idea – and then acted like they thought of it.

Pixar

10 07 2008

As if I didn’t already love Pixar enough…check out this story.

Evidently, a girl posted a video of herself crying at the Wall-E trailer a while back (okay, so I don’t get that part either, but that’s not the point), and it gained some attention, most notably the attention of the animators at Pixar. They were so appreciative of her video that they invited her to the staff-only wrap party for the movie.

Here’s her story.

(fyi – “Presto,” the animated short that precedes Wall-E, is now available on iTunes!)

The closest I’ll ever get to stardom

9 06 2008

Here’s the promo for the upcoming “At the Movies” series at LifeChurch.tv (which was alluded to a few months ago here ). All I can say is this is probably the most fun I’ve ever had on a project. One of those “I can’t believe I’m getting paid for this” things.

I’m still pretty sure I only got the screen time because I offered the FX work, but I’ll take what I can get.

Created the effects with green screen footage (shot by Grant Downing & Beth Johnson), Lightwave3D 9 and AfterEffectsCS3. Edited by Beth Johnson.

SNL - Superhero Party
How did I not know about this little gem from SNL?
Superhero Party

betrayed

22 05 2008

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I saw it. I went at midnight to see the first possible showing because I love the franchise and the characters that much. Up until this point, it’s been some of the greatest adventure storytelling we’ve seen, and probably the movie franchise that I hold most dear (even more than Star Wars).

But I am betrayed.

Let’s just say, first of all, that the one big question was answered: “Is Harrison Ford too old to play Indy again?” The answer: absolutely not. Harrison was great. He proved himself more than capable. It was everyone behind the camera that was not.

So that makes the sting all the more painful. It COULD have been great. Indy still SHOULD have worked, but they jumped the shark. They Lucas-ed it up.

My feelings can best be described with a lyric:

My blood runs cold
My memories have just been sold
My angel is a centerfold
My angel is a centerfold

Forget the film, watch the titles

13 04 2008

Just thought I’d share this little gem:
WatchTheTitles

It’s a collection of some of the most creative title sequences for major films, found at submarinechannel.com. It’s worth a look, even if you’re not a motion graphic designer.

I was particularly happy to see “The Good, The Bad & The Ugly” showcased on the main page, especially considering the technology that was available when it was made.

Who needs designers?

Had almost forgotten about this video…

It’s a little long, but it still cracks me up. Anyone who’s ever designed for clients (especially corporate clients) needs to see it.

The biggest geek you know

29 02 2008

Ghostbuster

…is definitely me.
There’s no question about it anymore. You always suspected it, but even you couldn’t be prepared for this. Yes, I Photoshopped my Halloween picture.
In my defense, we did ALL pose in our costumes in front of the green screen. This wasn’t some secret photo shoot that I set up alone one night when everyone was gone.
Even still, I’m pretty sure none of the other five people spent an hour tweaking their photos.
So, from now on, when someone asks you if I’m a geek, you say “YES!”

What’s even more disturbing is that I’m not more ashamed than I am.
